After several years of quality
deterioration, Malayalam films saw the signs of resurgence post-2010 with the
release of several experimental films (known as New Generation Films), mostly
from new directors.
Salim Ahamed's
Adaminte Makan Abu was chosen as India's official entry to the Academy
Awards to be considered for nomination in
the Best Foreign Film category for the year 2011. Christian Brothers (2011) was released worldwide with a total of 310 prints on
18 March; 154 centre’s in Kerala and 90 centres outside Kerala and 80 centre’s
overseas making it the widest release for a Malayalam Movie.
